Phobias or Irrational Fears are sometimes
the result of unpleasant experiences in our past. It is easy to see how a person
may gain for example a Phobia of Heights if they had an unpleasant experience relating to heights. Perhaps they had an accident where they fell or were put in a situation where they could have fallen to their death. But most people who are frightenned of heights or enclosed spaces or spiders or whatever it is they are phobic about, they can think of no rational reason why they respond in a phobic way.

Phobias are therefore irrational fears. The phobic trigger, heights, spiders or whatever is an outer representation of something within the person but outside their control. This is exactly why have never been able to get rid of the phobia and why they can't, no matter how hard they try, rationalise their way around it. They can't apply common sense and figure that because the spider is on the TV it can't hurt them, because the spider is only a representation of what is really bothering them. And the thing that is bothering them is within them but outside their control since it is always at an unconcious level. Hypnoanalysis, Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy can uncover the true triggers of your Phobia and rid you of it forever. |

Phobia of flying (Aero-Phobia) affects thousands
of people who fear flying, to the point that they will not be able to get on a
plane, although they have never been involved in an accident on a plane or even
flown. Many
phobias fall into this category that is, they are irrational fears and there is
no basis in reality for the person to suffer from them. So where do Phobias come
from and how can we effectively rid our clients of a phobia that has quite probably
ruled their lives for years?
Hypnotherapy and hypnoanalysis can uncover the specific triggers
to Phobias such as spiders (Arachnophobia) or flying (Aerophobia), some are much more general
phobias such as agoraphobia (the fear of open spaces). On the surface it looks like each
of the different phobias is very different. The fear of cats for example may seem
a million miles away from the fear of enclosed spaces, (claustrophobia).
The
one thing that all these phobias do have in common though is I ahve already shown is that they are all
a representation of something within you but outside of your control. A phobia is usually a symbolic representation of something painful which causes you anxiety
that you have bottled up.
Now
consider the idea that the fear of flying for most people is a symbolic representation
of not being in control. As you can imagine there are many other situations that
could trigger the same feeling of not being in control. Being on a train, being
a passenger in a car
|
So,
by now you may be wondering what exactly is the difference between a fear and
a phobia. Well, as you can imagine, the person who may be a little fearful of
flying, like the person who has any phobia will generally fear flying because
they are not in control of the situation, but he will still get on the plane. |
|
They
will no doubt feel anxious throughout the whole experience but never the less
they will get on the plane. The person who is phobic about
flying will not put themselves in the position of getting on a plane. They would
never book any travel arrangements that involved flying. As you can see the difference
is simply the degree of anxiety. Should they unexpectedly have to face their phobia
they would have an extremely severe reaction to the point that they would be extremely
ill. They would feel nauseous, their heart would race, they would possibly have
a panic attack. So as you can see a fear is to
some degree controllable by the person, a phobia is very intense and completely
out of their control. A phobia can ultimately end up controlling a persons life
as they try to avoid the phobic trigger.
